Blog #2

After spending some time on the Effective Altruism website I was able to grasp the idea of what their group is better then just reading Southan’s essay. When I first read the essay I kinda of have a negative mindset towards them that their goals were unrealistic. As I was looking through their website I started to change my thinking towards their group, this caused me to change my opinion as I reread Southan’s essay. The phrase that I talked about in my first blog, “Would you jump in and rescue her, even if you hadn’t pushed her in… and yet most of us manage to ignore those dying of poverty.” I first stated that these two ideas are related but different. I still agree with what I thought, but I feel as though I understand it more. As I was reading I also found that I noticed a lot more things the second time ,that I did not notice when reading the first time. I found some words that I did not fully know the definition to, and that I did not look up the first time I read the essay. I used https://www.dictionary.com to help gather definitions of those words I was unfamiliar with.

Great work! Keep it up! It’s interesting because while I don’t think Southan wrote anything UNTRUE, his delivery and framing prime readers to react negatively toward the EAs.
