What is science? Although there is not a discrete definition, one could explain science, as trying to explain the world in which we live. Although understanding and explaining the world we live in is still a mystery, integrating science and art together may better help scientist grasp a better understanding. Although Mark Baslough does not connect art and science together, he talks about the importance of science and how it relates to advances in the medical field. In his essay he writes, “It has swollen with the advances we associate with modern living, with media discoveries that have given us longer, healthier, happier lives, and with unsurpassed national security.” This quote helps us better understand the importance of science. Explaining that with the growing knowledge and the advancements of science, it has been able to help extend the life time, and help the human body be able to live healthy lives. In an essay by Neuroscientist Jonah Lehrer, he also explains the importance of science, in relation to human health, but he talks about how art can have a huge impact on science and medical discoveries. “Science needs the arts…. If we want to answers to our most essential questions… science can gain the kinds of new insights and perspectives that are the seeds of the scientific process.” Art gives us a new insight into science that we may not have been able to discover before. With health sciences, art is able to help better understand things in the human body that scientist and doctors may not be able to see otherwise. Without art and science, there would be little knowledge about the human body, thus we would see high rates of people dying from disease and other health problems.
